Top Sci-Fi Films – Serenity voted the best

If you’ve been an avid follower of my blog, you have realized that I am a bit of fan of sci-fi TV shows and movies.  Recently SFX magazine conducted a poll of 3,000 fans on the best sci-fi movie of all time.  To the surprise of many people, Serenity Cast of the Movie - Serenityby Joss Whedon (creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, & Firefly) won out as the top movie.  To give you an idea of the magnitude of the upset, Serenity beat some real heavy weights like Star Wars, Blade Runner, and Planet of the Apes

Here’s the full Top 10:
1. Serenity
2. Star Wars
3. Blade Runner
4. Planet of the Apes (1968)
5. The Matrix
6. Alien
7. Forbidden Planet
8. 2001: A Space Odyssey
9. The Terminator
10. Back to the Future

Joss WhedonPersonally, I have no objection with Serenity as the top movie.  Maybe because I have become a huge fan of Joss Whedon ever since Buffy hit the WB back in the late 90s.  It could be also be that Whedon writes the best dialogue and story in the business – on the screen and in print.  If his TV shows would have been on any of the three major networks during their runs, his mantel at home would be overflowing with Emmys and Golden Globes.

So for fun, I have complied my own Top 10 list.

  1. Serenity
  2. Empire Strikes Back
  3. The Matrix
  4. Blade Runner
  5. The Terminator
  6. Close Encounters of the Third Kind
  7. V for Vendetta
  8. Aliens
  9. 2001: A Space Odyssey
  10. Twelve Monkeys.
  11. Battlestar Galactica miniseries *** if you include TV movies ***

Please feel free to pick, debate or agree with my list.  Once you have done that, let me know your Top 10 and why.

  1. I can’t believe you didn’t include Batman Begins.

    I’d also add:
    X-Files
    Back to the Future
    X-Men

  2. Which X-Men?
