The Truth about John Edwards

January 26, 2008 · 1 Comment

Boy, what a political season it has been so far.  We have seen candidates drop out of the race (Fred Thompson, Joe Bidden, Bill Richardson and Dennis Kucinich), we seen candidates attack each other with malice (Clinton and Obama), we seen candidates putting all their chips in one state (Rudy), we seen candidates come out of no where to snatch a victoryJohn Edwards (Huckabee) and now we have seen the biggest liar of them all – John Edwards.  Yes, even bigger than Bill Clinton.

Okay, maybe I am a bit bold in my statement as a liar, but it sure got your attention, didn’t it???  It wasn’t until recently after reading an Op-Ed piece by Charles Krauthammer in the Washington Post that I realized how much of a circus the Edwards campaign is and I am not talking about the $400 dollar haircuts he seems to enjoy.  What I am talking about is his voting record as a Senator from NC and how it contradicts from the campaign he is conducting.  Here’s a sampling of his records straight from The Post:

As a Senator, he voted in 2001 for a bankruptcy bill that he now denounces.

As Senator, he voted for storing nuclear waste in Nevada’s Yucca Mountain.  Twice.  He is now fiercely opposed.

As Senator, he voted for Bush-Kennedy No Child Left Behind education reform.  He now campaigns against it, promising to have it “radically overhauled.”

As Senator, he voted fro the Patriot Act, calling it “a good bill…and I pleased to support it.”  He now attacks it.

As Senator, he voted to give China normalized trade relations.  Need I say?  He now campaigns against liberalized trade with China as a sellout of the middle class to the great multinational agents of greed, etc.

As you can see John Edwards is contradicting everything he stood for as a one-term senator from North Carolina.

So this track record makes me ask the following: is Edwards off his rocker, a lair, or just so hungry for power that he will say anything to get a spot in the White House?  You be the judge, but remember a person’s record speaks volume.

The question that need to be asked is do you want this man leading the Free World!  For me, I would say no!  Hopefully the rest of you will do the same.  John Edwards, it is time to retire from politics

Supernatural: Rising Son

January 17, 2008 · 13 Comments

Banking on the success of the Supernatural: Origins comic series from Wildstorm (DC Comics), Peter Johnson (co Rising Sonexecutive producer of the TV show) has decided to dial up the Winchester boys again for a new set of adventures.   Starting April 23rd, Wildstrom will publish a new six-issue miniseries call Supernatural: Rising Son.  This series picks up a few years after Origins takes place.  John is now training 11-year-old Dean to hunt and discovering some of seven-year-old Sam’s uniqueness.

Peter describes this arc as a dysfunctional-family story whereas Origins explored John’s rise and development as a hunter.   At 11, Dean starts to discover that his dad is more than a dad – he’s a hunter of evil.  If you thought your family was dysfunctional, I bet after checking in with the Winchesters your perception will change.

The Winchester boys are back and you know what that means — fire/brimstone adventure.  Hang on and enjoy the ride!

The Braves leave Richmond!

January 15, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Tell me it ain’t so!  The Richmond Braves are moving to Georgia!  Forty plus years of baseball in the capital city is coming to end.  What went wrong?  Why is the team leaving?  What about the Diamond?  All good questions that Richmond fans are asking on this Black Tuesday.  If I had to point a finger at the sole cause of the team’s exodus I would point to Richmond Mayor Doug Wilder. Since Mayor Wilder came to power several years ago to “save” Richmond from bureaucratic anarchy, all his administration has done is find ways to create controversy rather than opportunities.  The list of controversies is endless from the School Board relocation, to lawsuits against the City Council, the Broad Street Cultural Arts Center, and, of course, the new Brave’s stadium. The Ricmond Braves

Since 2003, the Braves have been requesting either a new venue or improvement to their home due to the deteriorating conditions of the Diamond – rats in the visitor’s dug out, poor drainage on the field, and concrete falling into the seats to name a few examples.  Things looked bright in 2003/4 as a new stadium project was conceived for a spot in Shockoe Bottom.  Then the freight train called Doug Wilder came into the office and the bottom feel out of the plan.

Since then Wilder has provided several suggestions for a new stadium – rebuild the Diamond at the same location, build across the street, refurbish the Diamond, build on Mayo Island, build near the old gas works on the James River, etc., but when you look closely at these proposals, none of them were ever feasible solutions to the issue.  With the clock running (4 years and counting), the Wilder administration has failed to find an ample home for the Brave and to see the urgency to get a deal done.

Many would say they should let the baseball team go since Richmond has so many other pressing issues like the school system, crime, and taxes.  However, remember baseball is a business.

Baseball employees personnel, pays for services (lights, food, water), provides tax revenue, and provides entertainment.  If baseball left, what will fill the void?  How much revenue will the restaurants on the Boulevard lose?  Will the Holiday Inn survive without all the visiting teams staying there?  How about the rent money the RMA receives? With the lost in rent, will the tolls on the Powhite increase again?  Don’t forget the charities that work the concession stands.  Their work helps provide money for their various charitable programs that help the needy and poor.  Where will those funds come from now?  All these items need to be considered before we allow the Braves to leave town.

So, where is Wilder when we need him?  Where is the executive leadership that he developed as Governor of Virginia? — That is a good question and a question most of the Richmond Metro area is asking today.  What can I say, Wilder is the Marion Berry (former mayor of Washington D.C.) of Richmond, minus the drugs and hookers.  His only goal is to increase his stature at the expense of the community.  God help us!

News on Season Four – BSG

January 15, 2008 · 1 Comment

Wake up everyone!  I know that this on-going writer’s strike that has reached 11 weeks has put us all to sleep.  Well, I have something that will wake all you BSG fans.  Battlestar Galactica is ready to return for its fourth and last season.  The season kicks off on April 4th.  If you don’t have a calendar out, it is Friday.  Yes, Friday, BSG is back to its old hunting grounds for this last season.  Yeah!!!!!

 BSG - The Last Supper

From what I have learned, the fourth season has 10 episodes filmed.  This BS writer’s strike will determine if the season will be ten episodes or not.  To get you ready for the season, the third season on DVD drops on March 25, 2008.

So, who is the last Cylon?  Well, if you want help to answer that question that has been on all fans’ mind since the third season finale, don’t look Ronald Moore’s way for answers.  In a recent interview in Entertainment Weekly, Moore discusses who the 12th Cylon isn’t.  Included in the interview is an interesting photo based on Da Vinci “Last Supper” that includes all the key players in BSG – Col. Tigh, Number Six, Natalie, Anders, Chief Tyrol, and Athena, who are all Cylons, and President Roslin, Lee Adama, Baltar, Starbuck, Helo, and Adama, who are the known humans.  What is missing?  You guess it…the 12th Cylon.

Moore is using this representation of a classic to lay the ground work for this season.  By posing the characters, changing their appearance slightly, Moore is challenging the fan to figure out the clues that could lead to the discovery of the 12th Cylon.  Like everything in the BSG universe, nothing is what it seems and the discovery of this burning question will not easily be discovered.  I guess we have to wait to April before this journey truly begins.

Here is video taste of what is to come for season four

See you then!
