As a TV show, you know you’ve arrived in the realm of pulp culture when you either have your own action figure, spin off, cartoon, and even a comic. Well, the later has now happened to one my favorite shows – Supernatural. You know, the show with that sweet 1967 Chevrolet Impala. Oh yeah, I guess I should also mention those Winchester boys – Sam and Dean too.
If you are not familiar with the show it is a cross between X-Files and Friday the 13th: the Series. The premise is about the bond of two brothers who are on a mission to bring down the demonic monster that took their mom, girlfriend, and eventually their dear father. Along they way, they do “jobs” for people who have no one else to turn too. These “jobs” are as you guessed of supernatural origin — ghost, demons, zombies, etc. By the way, did I tell you they travel throughout the country in a sweet 1967 Chevrolet Impala that steals the show. Oh yeah, I did . . . my bad. Anyway, you get the picture.
Now you know what the show is basically about, lets talk about the comic that is being released by Wildstorm (DC Comics). The comic is called Supernatural: Origins, written by one of the producers Peter Johnson and screenwriter Geoff Johns. This book fills in the gaps after the murder of Sam and Dean’s mother by the Yellow Eyed Demon as their dad John is forced to take on the mantle of single, mourning father while hunting down this evil creature. Along the way, this journey takes the Winchester clan into the realm of evil that is marching across our world. This quest is about more than revenge, it’s a war against evil. Can John Winchester raise two boys while hunting down the killer of their mother and wage a war against the supernatural evil? What is more important: fatherhood or fighting evil? The imporant question that needs to be asked – will the car be in the comic? The first issue hits the shelves May 7, 2007.
In 2008 a all new miniseries starts which that takes place several years after Origins – Supernatural: Rising Son.
